5 great travel blogs by people with reduced mobility

22 December 2015

We’ve been reading a lot of great blogs recently, so we thought it might be appropriate to share some of our peers.  We have been happy to find that there are many people with disabilities and their loved ones who blog about their experiences while travelling - read on to discover a handful of handpicked pages from the blogosphere!

Curb Free with Cory Lee

Cory Lee is an intrepid wheelchair-using traveller, whose ambition is to one day have visited every continent – including Antarctica!

Cory blogs about his experiences, offers advice to fellow people with mobility impaired travellers, and does so through entertaining and engaging articles.

Have Wheelchair Will Travel

This website was set up with the idea in mind to offer specific advice for travellers with reduced mobility.  The author works in the travel industry and has a son with cerebral palsy, and so has hugely valuable advice for anyone considering booking or who has already booked a holiday with one or more mobility impaired travel companion.

This author resides in Sydney, Australia, but much of the advice she offers remains practical to UK residents.

Anything is Possible Travel

This website is another advice page for people travelling with reduced mobility, and offers advice on topics that include cruises, accessible lodging, holiday diaries and more.

This author lives in California.

Hot Wheels Goes

This is a very entertaining blog written by a wheelchair user who travels regularly.  She has recently been preparing  for a long trip around Asia, and writes with a  great deal of fun and humour.

Wheelchairtravel.org Blog

This is a blog attached to a website that aims to show people with mobility impairments how to travel.  It was founded by a “globe-trotting triple amputee”, and the blog itself is compiled of reviews and tip guides for travel across the world.

It is certainly well worth exploring the rest of the website too, as it is packed with advice regarding travel, transport, destinations and accommodation.

As the author himself states, “The world belongs to everyone, even you.  Don’t take no for an answer.”

** Bonus Blog**

Fighting Monsters with Rubber Swords

(Although this is not a blog about travel, or even about reduced mobility, it is so warm and passionate that it is well worthy of attention)

This blog is a father offering his insight into the world of his wordless daughter.  Schuyler’s “monster” is her polymicrogyria, a condition characterised by a developmental malformation of the brain.

Her father’s passionate, warm and honest accounts of his daughter’s life with the condition and their determination to assist other people’s understanding of polymicrogyria is extremely moving and very readable.
