Day 1 – Quito
Arrive in Quito, Ecuador, to prepare for the excitement of the upcoming days. (D)
Day 2 – Mitad del Mundo-Otavalo
Straddle the northern and southern hemispheres today, when you visit the Mitad del Mundo – the Middle of the World. At the Inti-Ñan Museum, learn ways to scientifically prove that you are standing at the centre of the world, and then journey on to Otavalo, where you will spend the night. (B-L-D)
Day 3 – Otavalo
Otavalo’s market will provide a morning of colourful designs and handicrafts, followed by a drive to Ibarra city to observe the architecture and taste the famous ice cream during a walk in the park. (B-L-D)
Day 4 – Cuicocha
A morning visit to the Cuicocha Crater Lake at the foot of Cotacachi Volcano, where you can enjoy a boat ride and a picturesque tour of the area before lunch. In the afternoon, the town of Cotacachi will welcome you before you return to the hotel. (B-L-D)
Day 5 – Otavalo-Amazon
Today, you will drive to the Amazon. During the journey, you will cross two mountain chains and seven different climate floors, and, on a clear day, even see some volcanoes. Meet indigenous natives and learn their customs and culinary ways, experiencing a dramatic ritual by the local shaman for those interested. (B-L-D)
Day 6 – Amazon
It’s now time to explore the REAL Amazon, hiking through the secondary rainforest while being taught about the medicinal properties of the flora by a native guide. After exploring this forest path, prepare yourself to meet the varied wildlife of the Amazon, face to face, at an animal rescue centre. Afterwards, the two closest towns will provide entertainment and distraction, as well as the opportunity to share time with the locals. (B-L-D)
Day 7 – Amazon
Visit an association called Kallari, which produces, processes and sells cacao-chocolate bars in a sustainable way, as an alternative to traditional cacao farming. Of course, during the day there will be numerous opportunities to sample these delicious beans and chocolate products. (B-L-D)
Day 8 – Rafting
A raft down the calm Anzu River will provide the chance to see the Amazon from a unique and beautiful perspective. After a rewarding journey both on water and on land, you will return to the lodge for a relaxing afternoon of chatting, relaxing and the option to play games. (B-L-D)
Day 9 – Amazon-Baños
This tourist-friendly region of the Amazon lies at the glorious base of the active Tungurahua Volcano, and in the afternoon, take a cablecar ride above the Pataza River ravines and waterfalls. (B-L-D)
Day 10 – Baños
Enjoy a spa treatment in the beautiful city of Baños, trying out traditional local baths and food, before deciding whether to indulge in further luxurious treatments or tour the city. (B-L-D)
Day 11 – Baños-Quito
Drive through the Andes back to Quito, where you can enjoy a city tour during which you will visit different plazas and churches, as well as picking up some final souvenirs. (B-L-D)
