The Johannesburg experience is an awe-inspiring accessible adventure, where guests will find themselves immersed in the wild jungles, riveting plains and exciting encounters that are available in South Africa. The emphasis during this tour is placed upon the country’s exotic wildlife, with many guests enjoying the sights of South Africa’s majestic “Big 5” – the Elephant, Rhinoceros, Buffalo, Leopard and the mighty Lion!
Pre-planned excursions available during this tour are very centred around the area’s animal inhabitants, transporting you to rehabilitation centres that offer a range of dazzling attractions and exciting events. These excellent facilities have been created to help amazing animals rehabilitate towards life back in the wild and have lifelong homes in the centre if need be.
Accessible accommodation will be provided throughout your stay, offering adapted facilities that cater to each unique customer, ensuring that your nights are as wheelchair friendly as the rest of your experience. The following itinerary is an example of a typical Johannesburg tour, but Enable Holidays are happy to organise variations to suit the desires of individual travellers.
KEY:
B = Breakfast Included / D = Dinner Included
Welcome to Johannesburg! Upon your arrival into the International Airport, you will meet your guide, receive an adapted transfer to your accessible hotel, and use your first day in South Africa to recover from the journey, a welcoming prelude to the excitement to come. After breakfast the following day, your guide will escort you around the exciting city of Johannesburg and some of the most impressive nearby sights of Pretoria.
Today, the trip begins with a visit to the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre. This adapted excursion grants you access to the exhilarating Kruger Park, Khamai Reptile Park, Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, as well as a range of dazzling natural attractions such as the Blyde River Canyon and the Echo Caves.
After sleeping off the journey overnight in Ya Mati, you will enjoy a relaxing day trip to two of the most well-known centres for wildlife rehabilitation and recovery in South Africa. While Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre specialises in birds of prey and mammals, the Hoedspruit Centre focuses on breeding cheetahs and has projects for Cape Hunting Dogs, Barbary Lions, African black-footed cats and more.
Coming face-to-face with these creatures is unforgettable and is a more hands-on experience than the upcoming safari. Guests will relish meeting the resident hippos, cheetahs and birds of prey, secure in the knowledge that these amazing animals are either being rehabilitated towards life back in the wild or have suffered injuries that would limit their survival in the outside and are enjoying a far safer life in the centre.
The time has come to witness the mesmerizing thrills of South Africa’s wildlife, galloping, crawling and stalking in its natural habitat. This savanna area is home to galloping herds of zebra, wildebeest and buffalo, as well as awe-inspiring carnivores, towering elephants and hundreds of species of birds, reptiles and amphibians.
Kruger National Park is an exceptional expanse of natural beauty, measuring roughly the same size as Wales, and offers all the fauna-rich wonders of a rural African setting. From having had its many wild animals depleted by poachers in the early 20th century, the area was given the title of National Park in 1926 to protect its endangered wildlife. Now, it is a rare cornucopia of life and one of the largest national parks on the planet.
Over the next three days, you will find yourself immersed in this breath-taking expanse, sleeping in the park’s rest camps and spending the daylight hours seeing sights that only the privileged of us will ever enjoy.
Today, bid farewell to Kruger National Park before a leisurely return to Johannesburg, ready to fly home.
Tour dates can be arranged, as and when you would like to travel whether that’s next week or next month, it is entirely up to you. We do however suggest particular seasons throughout the year, often from early October to mid-May, as this provides you with better chances of experiencing ideal weather during your stay.
The total price of the tour covers adapted transfers, flights, wheelchair accessible accommodation in Johannesburg, breakfast and dinner on specified days, ground transportation from and to all tours, all accessible wheelchair tours with entrance fees where needed and an English-speaking guide at all activities.
